Principal's Welcome
It gives me great pleasure to welcome all parents, teachers, pupils, past pupils and the members of the wider community to our school’s website. The website provides a link between Castlecomer Community School and the people of the community. We are celebrating over 30 years of service to the community. Over this time we have educated students to the highest standards. The achievements of our past pupils have been exceptional and there is every reason to believe that this will continue into the future.
We are very proud of our excellent Leaving Cert results and the opportunities that our students have when they move on from secondary school. On average 20-25 % of our students achieve more than 500 points in their Leaving, and a further 30 % get more than 400. Coupled with that, 85 % of our students typically go on to study third level degree courses, 7 % will take up apprenticeships, 5 % do PLC courses and 3 % choose to seek employment.
We believe this is a strong reflection of the quality of the education students receive when they come to Castlecomer Community School, due in no small measure to the high quality of teaching staff and the excellent relationships we foster between school, home and the community. We consistently compare favourably with any school in Kilkenny for the quality of education, the choice of subjects and the all round experience that we provide for all our students no matter their level or needs.
The website aims to provide important school news and reports. Student achievements and involvement are highlighted regularly. You can also follow us on Twitter @CastlecomerHigh, for news updates and results. We intend to make available to parents all Department of Education and Skills inspection reports as they become available. These reports have, since 2005, re-affirmed the excellence of teaching and learning in the school.
Our website also highlights our participation and successes in co-curricular and extra-curricular areas which, combined with academic excellence, produce the well-rounded and balanced student. I must pay tribute to our excellent teaching staff who work tirelessly for their students and have an extraordinary interest in their well-being and success. The atmosphere in Castlecomer Community School has always been a happy one, which is conducive to the academic, social and spiritual development of all pupils in our care.
I hope that the website addresses some of the needs of the stakeholders in the Community School and those of the wider community. I look forward to serving the educational needs of the people of North Kilkenny and wish continued success to our pupils, teachers and parents in all areas of life.
